Welcome Your New Addition

Your baby's first moments in the world are very important. At one and five minutes after birth, and upon admission to the nursery, he or she will be given an Apgar score. This measures the baby's heart rate, respiration rate, muscle tone, as well as response to color and stimulus. Please feel free to ask the nurse about your baby's Apgar score.

After delivery, your baby will stay with you in the delivery room for approximately one hour, so that your husband or support person can share this special moment with you. For the safety and comfort of both mother and child, babies born by Cesarean section are taken to the nursery after delivery and do not remain in the delivery room.

Antelope Valley Hospital no longer performs circumcisions. If you choose this option, your pediatrician can perform the procedure in his or her office. Please check with your insurance carrier about coverage of this procedure.
