If your delivery appears normal, your doctor will ask you to stay in the hospital between 12 and 36 hours. If a Cesarean birth is performed, you will most likely stay in the hospital for a few days. Your baby usually stays the same number of days you do.
Throughout your stay, nurses will check your vital signs, day and night. If you are asleep, the nurse will have to awaken you to make these checks to assure you are recovering properly.
There is a 48 hour law that states if stay is less than 48 hours after delivery - patient is entitled to a Home Health visit and can request this from their physician. The visit is conducted by an experienced maternal child health nurse.
